Enjoy a unique day learning how fish reaches our tables, understanding the significance of this industry, and savoring unique sea products

Visit the Fish port and fish auction

The fishing industry in Spain is a sector that provides employment for thousands of people. Fresh fish holds immense importance in Spain, and in every village across the country, you’ll find a fish shop where you can purchase freshly caught pieces. Additionally, in local markets, many stalls offer fresh fish of exceptional quality, challenging to find in other countries.

To appreciate the significance of this sector in gastronomy and local culture, we invite you to embark on a journey to the Barcelona port. Here, you can witness fishermen unloading their catch after a long journey, observe how they repair their nets, and experience the excitement of the auction, which is genuinely entertaining.

To enrich the experience, we have planned to explore the neighborhood of Barceloneta, a typical area where fishermen traditionally reside. Our itinerary includes a visit to the local market, where you can immerse yourself in the vibrant atmosphere and discover an array of fresh seafood. Following this, we have arranged an Oyster tasting paired with cava, adding a touch of luxury to your culinary journey.

Afterwards, we will head to one of the best restaurant of Barceloneta, where you’ll indulge in a fabulous seafood menu, culminating in the finest seafood and Paella.

Join us as we celebrate the rich tapestry of Spain’s fishing heritage, offering you an unforgettable and immersive encounter with the sea, its harvesters, and the culinary treasures they provide. This delightful culinary adventure in Barcelona will conclude just before the designated port entry time, typically around 4 pm, ensuring you have ample time to witness the fishermen unloading their catch and experience the lively fish auction at the Barcelona port.

The fish auction

Fish auctions in ports are common in many coastal regions, including Spain, where they play a crucial role in the seafood industry. These auctions serve as central points where freshly caught fish are brought in by fishermen and sold to buyers, typically seafood wholesalers and retailers.

In Spain, especially in coastal areas, fish auctions are lively events that occur daily or regularly, showcasing the diversity of marine life caught by local fishermen. The process usually involves boats docking at the port and unloading their catch, which is then sorted and auctioned off to the highest bidders.

Buyers at fish auctions can include seafood markets, restaurants, and other businesses involved in the distribution of fresh seafood. The auctions contribute to the local economy, help maintain the seafood supply chain, and provide consumers with access to a wide variety of freshly caught fish.

The atmosphere at a fish auction can be vibrant, with the auctioneer rapidly calling out bids and buyers carefully inspecting the quality of the fish. It’s a fascinating glimpse into the world of the fishing industry and an opportunity to witness the journey of seafood from the sea to the market.

A 100% amazing tapas tour in Barcelona. We booked the Tapas Tour experience with this company, and it couldn't have gone better. They took us to places away from the crowded tourist areas, and all the bars we visited were very special and authentic. The quality of the tapas surprised us. What we liked the most was the guide; we ended up becoming friends and exchanging phone numbers. Highly recommended. 100%

We booked a private tapas tour and enjoyed every moment of it. Diego took excellent care of us, and we had the opportunity to sample exquisite tapas and wine. It was so fantastic that we also scheduled a winery visit with them. They took us to a magnificent bodega where we had a memorable tour with a guided tasting paired with a delicious lunch just for us.
